ABOUT ME

At age 18, while still a senior in high school, I unexpectedly became pregnant with my first child. I had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, but with my new responsibility as a mother, I felt I needed to choose a path that would quickly lead me to a supportive income.  I chose to be a nurse, and it has been the best career choice I could have ever made.  Since that moment, I have never looked back.

My nursing career started in 2006.  At the beside at a local hospital, I quickly found interest in furthering my career as an advanced practice nurse. By 2010, I graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing and landed my first job in acute care.  From there I briefly practiced primary care, but went back to the acute care setting in a cardiac surgery practice.  My role in cardiac surgery was multifaceted and required me to reach beyond my comfort level as a nurse.  I became involved in several business aspects of my department, such as marketing and financial analysis.  This experience pushed me towards obtaining a business degree, and in 2018 I graduated with a MBA.

During the evolution of my career, my personal life consisted of getting married and having two more children.  Balancing my professional career and family life has always been a challenge, however, the everlasting support of my family has made it possible.

In 2018, just after finishing my business degree, I was inspired to start my own healthcare practice.  I felt at this time in my career, I had the tools necessary to take the leap.  Bringing back house calls to the everyday family was an idea I had even years before but lacked the confidence to take the risk.  After months of market research and planning, I launched Neighborhood NP, LLC, in August of 2018.  At the same time, I added the challenge of obtaining my Doctorate in Nursing Practice, and I'm set to graduate summer 2020.

I created this site to share my experiences with others, not only my career experiences, but my personal ones as well.  I would like to share my story with everyone - the teen who is facing challenges, the mom who's struggling to balance her professional life with her home life, the entrepreneur building a business, or the patient trying to find information about their health.  My blog will provide you with the wisdom and knowledge I have found through my personal journey.

I look forward to sharing!
